2019 Elitloppet

May 26, 2019 - Trotting, 1,609 meters, Solvalla, Sweden

Preview from March 11, 2019

The 2019 Elitloppet will be the last performance for the former Amérique winner Readly Express and it will not be his easiest. Strong contenders will face him over the mile, like his permanent rival Propulsion, defending champion Ringostarr Treb or the probable best gelding of the world Aubrion De Gers.

Readly Express never started in the most important trotting race of his homeland, still he will probably be the horse to beat in the 2019 Elitloppet, at least he heads the betting market. The winner of the 2018 Prix d’Amérique has almost no experience over the sprint distance, his recent victory in the Critérium de Vitesse on March 9 was the first time he run over a mile. However, he won that race at Cagnes-sur-Mer with a new track record of 1:08,9. Readly Express had already proven that he can still keep up with the best trotters of the world when won the Prix de France in February. Nevertheless, his racing career will come to an end after the Elitloppet.

Ringostarr Treb will obviously be among the favourites as he his the title holder. The nine-year-old returned home to Italy after a third place in the Yonkers International Trot, but meanwhile already arrived in Sweden again, where he wants to defend his Olympiatravet title on April 27. Trainer Jerry Riordan recently declare Ringostarr Treb will not take part in the Gran Premio Della Lotteria.

Propulsion finished runner-up the last two years in the Elitloppet. According to trainer Daniel Redén he will get more preparation races this year. Redén came to that conclusion because Propulsion had shown his best form after the Elitloppet the recent years.

Aubrion De Gers would be a very interesting guest from France, should he start in the 2019 Elitloppet. His trainer Jean-Michel Bazire is not a real friend of Swedish trotimng racing, why a start Amérique winner Bélina Josselyn is rather unlikely. But he had signified that Aubrion De Gers could run in Solvalla. The nine-year-old won 18 of his last 19 races, even defeated Bold Eagle in September 2017. However, as a gelding he could never take part at the Prix d'Amérique. Like last year Aubrion De Gers will have his first of the new year at Caen in the Prix de Cauvicourt on March 13.
