Prix d'Amerique 2014
January 26, 2014 - Trotting, 2700 meters, Paris-Vincennes
Preview: January 23, 2014
When the world's most prestigious trotting race will take place on the last Sunday in January
it is not unlikely that
Ready Cash will win the Grand Prix d'Amerique for the third time,
as serious opponents are not easy to find.
Texas Charm, who was considered as Ready Cash's main rival, cannot take part due to an injury.
Last year's winner
Royal Dream performed weak in his recent races. May be this happend
due to tactical reasons and he will display different form on Sunday.
Also other
big guns like
Timoko,
Save The Quick or
The Best Madrik could not
convince recently, at least
Roxane Griff attracted notice by winning the Prix de Cornulier,
the world's most important mounted trotting event. Still she had not shown great form in front
of the sulky lately and only two horses were able to win the Prix de Cornulier and one
week later the Prix d'Amerique in history.
Maharajah had been placed well in the Prix d'Amerique before, he might have a chance, if
on his best. In October the Swede won the Owners Trophy in Solvalla
with a new national record after a six month injury break, but in his last test on January 11 he
finished only fourth in the Bulwarks Lopp. He was probably not forced to his best two weeks ahead
of the big race, still the usual doubts about him remain.
Several younger horses caught attention in the preparatory 'B-races'.
Uhlan du Val won the Prix du Bretagne ahead of his age-mate
Up and Quick,
Tiego d'Etang and Roxane Griff in November. Afterwards he became second in the Prix du Bourbonnais,
just beaten on the line by 53:1 outsider
Triode de Felliere. The mare Triode de Felliere
then could confirm this success when finished second in a very fast run Prix de Bourgogne behind Texas Charm.
The last B-race, the Prix de Belgique, was won by
Yarrah Boko like last year.
Remarkable that he was successful straight after a three month time out.
Also on January the 12th
Up and Quick booked his ticket for the Prix d’Amerique by winning the Prix Ténor de Baune.
This success over the 2700 meters was so impressive that one could think that the six-year-old might be the horse that could stop Ready Cash.
With
Mack Grace SM and
Nesta Effe also two Italian horses enhance the Prix d'Amerique.
The later gained acceptance among the best horses when was successful in Scandinavia earlier this year, he finished
seventh in the
Elitloppet 2013.
Mack Grace SM won his last 13 races, but never won outside Italy and will face completely different quality now.
Since the Grand Prix d’Amerique was established in 1920 four horses managed to win the race three times
(Uranie, Roquépine, Bellino II, Ourasi), Ourasi did even win it a fourth time 1990.
